In Qiemo County, located in the midst of the Taklimakan Desert in Xinjiang, China, a seafood farming base run by the Qiemo County Shishixian Aquatic Products Co., Ltd. has successfully trialed the cultivation of pearls alongside its ocean fish farming operations.

The desolate desert environment, seemingly inhospitable, turns out to be ideal for premium seafood and pearl cultivation thanks to its pristine unpolluted nature combined with advanced eco-farming techniques that achieve zero discharge and zero antibiotic use through a circular aquaculture model. This model treats fish waste into nutrients absorbed by algae that then feed the pearl oysters, which purify the water and produce microbes as fish feed – a sustainable cycle.
Currently, these pioneering seafood farming technologies are employed at bases in Qiemo County and Kizilsu Kyrgyz Autonomous Prefecture, realizing mass production with products marketed nationwide to compete with those from established seafood farming regions.
